The electrical metal tube (EMT) is a lightweight, used to enclose wire conduits within the structure. Although there are other pipeline materials, this type is one of the more common choices made by contractors because it is more cost-effective than similar materials. Steel and aluminum are the two main choices used to make the pipe, and in many cases it is also galvanized with a zinc coating so that it will remain corrosion-resistant. The EMT is not connected in series with many other options within the tube, but instead is mounted to the fixture at both ends.
This tube is the most popular choice for indoor and outdoor use because it is the lightest steel pack on the market. Because it is constructed of a premium metal, it controls the entire route created, and in fact many areas specify that EMT must use electricity flow that meets building standards. Non-metallic pipes are also more susceptible to moisture, which is dangerous for free flowing electricity around. The effect of exposure to chemical vapors or the protection of accidental blunt forces also uses this type of pipe, and even light metal plating is superior to none at all.
Another reason contractors use electrical metal tubes over many other materials is ease of installation. Construction workers often have a very small space to install features inside the electric pipe, and some alternative bulkiness is more difficult to handle. Inside the crawlspaces or lofts, this elevator manufacturer's product can be installed quickly, efficiently, securely, and interlocked with threaded clamps. Since EMT is also flexible, it can be installed in other areas, otherwise it will not be possible. Another advantage is that because it is often galvanized, it is also suitable for installation in outdoor environments.
Electrical metal tubes also have their shortcomings and it is not recommended for every possible application. A large series of wires is used when, for example, the contractor may prefer rather than use a rigid metal conduit (RMC) or a galvanized metal conduit (GMC) to provide superior protection. The field requires multiple bends and curves may be better suited for soft metal tubes (FMT) or flexible metal tubes (FMC) because they can operate at almost any angle but remain stable.
